MAW: Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
MAW is a facial-fitness game for iPhone. This policy explains what data the
app handles and what it never does. The short version: your face is
processed on your device and never leaves it.
Camera & face data: on-device only. MAW uses your
iPhone's front TrueDepth camera and Apple's ARKit to detect facial movements
(like tongue, jaw, and lip motion) so exercise reps can count in the game.
All face processing happens on your device, in real time. The app does
not record, store, upload, or transmit camera footage, face
images, or face-geometry data, to us or to anyone else. When you close a
battle, the camera data is gone.
Face data and the TrueDepth API
This section describes exactly what MAW does with data from the front
TrueDepth camera, as required by Apple's App Store guidelines.
- What is collected: MAW uses Apple's ARKit face tracking
(the TrueDepth API) to read facial-expression values called blendshape
coefficients, such as how far the jaw is open, whether the tongue is out,
or how much the lips are puckered. Each is a number between 0 and 1. The app
does not capture camera images or video, does not use the 3D face mesh, and
does not use any face-identity or Face ID data.
- How it is used: only to count exercise repetitions in
real time during a battle and, during onboarding, to set a personal
calibration threshold for each movement. There is no other use.
- How it is stored and for how long: the live
expression values are processed in memory on your iPhone and discarded
frame by frame; nothing from a battle is retained once it ends. The only
values kept are your calibration thresholds: one number per movement (at
most five numbers in total), stored locally on your device in the app's
settings. These numbers cannot be used to reconstruct your face or
identify you. No face data is ever stored on a server, because MAW has no
server.
- Sharing with third parties: none. Face data, including
the calibration numbers, is never sent to us or to any third party. The
third-party services in the app (RevenueCat for subscriptions, PostHog for
anonymous usage analytics) do not receive camera or face data of any kind.
- Deletion and revoking consent: deleting MAW from your
iPhone permanently deletes the calibration numbers. You can withdraw camera
access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security →
Camera; the game's battles will not run without it, but the rest of the
app still works. You can also email
playmawapp@gmail.com with any
question about your data.
What the app stores on your device
Your game progress (streaks, XP, cleared rooms, calibration settings) is
saved locally on your iPhone. There are no accounts, and we run no servers
that hold your data. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use
RevenueCat to manage
subscription status; it receives purchase-receipt information (such as an
anonymous app user ID, purchase date, and product ID) from Apple. It never
receives your name, payment details, or any camera data.
Analytics
We use PostHog to collect
anonymous usage events (for example, which onboarding screen was completed or
that a battle was finished) so we can improve the app. These events contain no
face data, no photos, and no personal identity. If you install via an Apple
Search Ads ad, Apple's AdServices framework may provide anonymous attribution
data (which campaign led to the install).
What we never collect
- Camera footage, photos, or face-geometry data: never uploaded, never stored
- Health or medical data
- Contacts, location, or microphone audio
- Your name, email, or account details: the app has no accounts
Children
MAW is rated 12+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not
knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You can revoke camera access at any time in iOS Settings (the game's
battles need it to function). You can manage or cancel your subscription in
Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
Cancellation is immediate and unconditional, no questions asked.
